New little Johnny's

Advantage Johnny is now the proud father of eight pups after his first litter were born here in the UK earlier this week to Icemaid Lilley.

Lance says that Lilley and her litter of 5 Dogs and 3 Bitches are doing well and all of them are a really good size, we would like to wish Lance and Pam all the best for the future with this litter and if any of them turn out to be as good as their mother or father then I am sure Lance and Pam will be delighted

Take Advantage of Johnny

Advantage Johnny has unfortunately raced for the last time.............................but it isn't as sad as it may seem!

A visually stunning 75lb specimen but also very fast greyhound on his day and finalist in numerous Group 1 competitions in Ireland, Johnny had everything in particular fierce early pace and huge back straight pace that was simply breathtaking.

As a result of Johnny on track capability, his physical make up and fantastic pedigree, both myself and Lance have decided that it is time for Johnny to hang up his trapping boots and take up a new path and hopefully start another long and successful career, this time though it will be at stud.

Johnny will soon be covering his first bitch and the lucky young lady in question is Icemaid Lilley, a multiple open race winning bitch who Lance both owns and also bred. The lines to this mating are well suited and will hopefully produce some exciting pups.

Should Johnny go on to produce some top class pups early in his career then as the son of Larkhill Jo and Grandson of the late, but great Staplers Jo he could be very much in demand, to see Johnny's full and impressive pedigree please visit the following link ADVANTAGE JOHNNY’S PEDIGREE

If anyone should be interested in using Advantage Johnny as a Stud dog to their bitch then please, for further details either e-mail admin@category1greyhounds.com or alternatively contact Lance Burford direct at the kennels.

Questhouse Visit

After a visit up to Questhouse Kennels I can confirm that at 8 months old our Westmead Hawk x Jazz Hurricane dog pup 'Storming Hawk' is a striking and simply stunning individual. I must convey my thanks to Dave and his dad for their superb hospitality as always but also on the magnificent job they have done so far with not only Storming Hawk but all the pups they have at Questhouse.

Storming Hawk really does look the part and he gave me a real sense of anticipation and excitment for next year when I saw him, if he can run as well as he looks then roll on 2010 because we could have a very good year!

Also as a result of my visit to Questhouse I can reveal we have a new addition to the team at Category 1 Greyhounds.

Details on this new syndicate will be available on our website very soon, but be quick if your interested as I can see this new syndicate filling very quickly indeed.

Topstar Honcho was in action last night at Sunderland and finished a very creditable second after suffering some severe trouble at the first bend, on the night however trouble seemed to be on the menu in every single 4 bend race on the card. It has been a long time since I have witnessed so much trouble on one racecard and seen so many dogs get knocked over, fortunately all the dogs did seem to come off the track in one peice.

After speaking with Lance today it seems Star is in good order this morning despite last nights events and we will now look to find another race for him in the near future.

We also have a new and interesting little thread on our forum called 'Punting Pointers' that is definately worth a read, just click the forum tab on the menu bar and visit the General Discussion area in the forum to see what its all about.

Try another day

Unfortunately Advantage Johnny failed to qualify for the Semi-finals of the BetFred Eclipse at Nottingham on Monday after finishing fourth to a very good winner in Eye OnThe Storm. Whilst Johnny trapped well in second place and chased hard down the back straight his efforts were in vain, it would seem that coming off the last bend his efforts to get to Eye OnThe Storm were taking there toll and he came home just outside of a qualifying place. Where Johnny goes next is up to Lance but he is likely to be running again in the very near future so be sure to keep an eye out for him.

Questhouse Em has now joined us and team Iceman from Charlie Lister's kennel after we agreed a deal with the owner and breeder Dave Wood from Questhouse Kennels to lease her for the remainder of her racing career, once she has finished racing she will return to Dave and his breeding establishment to hopefully whelp future open class litters.

Em is herself open class and clocked a superb 29.05 at Sheffield in only her second ever race and we look forward to some good racing in the future with her under the Category 1 Greyhounds syndicate name.

On Friday Lance and his team journey north undertaking a 5 hour trip to Sunderland for the open race card with four runners, one of which is Topstar Honcho. I did ask Lance if he had changed the kennel name to MADMAN instead of ICEMAN given his choice of travelling 5 hours to Sunderland on a cold and dark Friday night and the distinct possibility of only returning home around 3.00am on Saturday morning, but he assures me he is still sane, everything is cool and the Iceman Kennels have not undergone a change of name!!!

Star is in what looks to be the top heat over the standard trip on the card and will certainly come on for the run, if everything remains as it needs to be after Friday and he has come out of the race well and is in good order then we will probably look find him another race in the following 7-10 days.

Big Chief is doing well and starting to really settle now at Iceman Kennels, so once Lance thinks its time to start to put him through his paces a bit we will get more of an idea as to what he is all about.

Into Battle

scotsdg3

This week we go into action on Wednesday evening with Advantage Martti in a graded event at Coventry, Advantage Johnny runs in the heats of the 'Pride of the West' also on Wednesday at Swindon and then on Thursday we go to Belle Vue where Topstar Honcho lines up in heat 3 of the £10,000 Betfred Laurels.

The races of Martti and Star can both be viewed over the internet at www.24dogs.com , whilst the 'Pride of the West' makes up part of Swindon's Wednesday evening BAG's card, so Johnny's race will be screened live via SIS in all the high street bookmakers.

Lance, Pam and all the team do a sterling job for us and we would like to take this opportunity to wish them and the dogs all the best for what will hopefully be a busy and exciting couple of weeks or so for them and all our members at Category 1 Greyhounds.

Turned Out Nice

On Saturday night Advantage Johnny overcame some serious early trouble around the first two bends at Oxford to win his heat of the Shop-Tech UK Maiden Derby in 26.95 and qualify comfortably for this Saturday's £1,500 Final. Johnny showed his class and pace down the back straight after nearly running off the track at the second bend due to earlier crowding, he then after putting himself back in the race asserted off the last bend and pulled away for a comfortable victory. The draw for the final is below and it looks as though Jolly Paocher has a plot draw in Trap 1 and could be difficult to beat.

T-1 Jolly Poacher (26.71) R Yeates
T-2 Nikitas Rose (27.11) R Bicknell
T-3 Rockview Billy (m) (27.04) D Porter
T-4 Lily Rules (w) (27.02) R Yeates
T-5 Advantage Johnny (w) (26.95) L Burford
T-6 Craggy Ted (w) (27.13) C Weatherall

Topstar Honcho moved particularly well in a 3 dog trial prior to racing at Oxford on Saturday and Lance is looking to send him back to Oxford this week for one of the supporting opens on Saturday's card.

Advantage Martti put in a good performance on his four bend debut in a Maiden Open at Coventry last night. Martti just failed to make the bend in front and was himself in trouble, but he showed good pace down the back and ran on well enough to suggest that the trip is surprisingly within his compass.

Both our pups Big Chief and the Westmead Hawk x Jazz Hurricane dog continue to do well and we will hopefully have some more news on Big Chief in the next couple of days as he is due to visit the track again to take another step forward in his schooling program.

Attention! Attention!

We hope to announce later this week the news regarding a deal for one of Ireland fastest greyhounds of recent times who will go on to represent Category 1 Greyhounds in all the up and coming major open race competitions.

We will look to contest both the £20,000 East Anglian Derby at Yarmouth and the £10,000 Laurels at Belle Vue with our possible new recruit and also Topstar Honcho who is well on his way to being back to his best and is looking to be in real good shape for both of these competitions.

There is new video footage and still images of our Westmead Hawk x Jazz Hurricane dog pup on his syndicate page, he has four white feet, a white muzzle/nose, big white chest and white tip on his tail, but is not to be mistaken for the bitch (aka The Vicar of Dibley in the video) who has a full white collar and white stripe from her nose and through to her head. The litter look really well and seem to be coming on a treat up at Questhouse and are a credit to Dave and his Dad, if they can run as well as they look we will definately have a Category 1 winner on our hands.

Big Chief is doing everything right over the water in Ireland and Marie is very pleased with his progress, as soon as he had been to the track again we will update everyone further, but I am lead to believe by Marie that whilst walking through the fields with him the other day he took a very keen interest in a rather large Hare that came up literally yards in front of them!

Advantage Martti ran his best race to date and went close last Sunday finishing second, but again found trouble from the 5 box this Sunday and Lance is now going to seed him closer to the rail for his next couple of runs, given a good draw and a bit of luck I think young Martti might hit the target sooner rather than later.

Also dont forget to visit our forum by clicking the link and entering our Sky night tipping competition as the jackpot still stands at £250 Cash for the live card at Wimbledon on Tuesday 11th August.
